Recycling

Recycling, a Great Idea
What a load off this planet

Let’s all, re-use what we are using

What to Recycle

YES

Plastic: Milk Cartons, Pop / Water Bottles, Coffie, Laundry Detergent, Shampoo, Motor Oil, Antifreeze. Look at the bottom, you will see: “PETE 1” or “HDPE 2”. (You may see, HDPE and a different number, those are Not Recyclable at this time)

Paper: Newspaper, Magizines, Phone books, Catalogs, Junk Mail, office paper, Cardbord boxes, Paperback books, Cereal ‘boxes’, MUST have the plastic bag, inside the box removed. (That bag is not recycable)

Glass: Bottles, containing a human eatable substance, or drinkable item. Green, brown, Clear, Not broken or crushed.

Cans: Steel or aluminum. (Take off paper or plastic label, and flatten)

NO

Plastic: Any caps from any of the containers on the left. Take off the caps and throw them away. No Plastic bags, No Fast food or TV type dinner ‘plastic’ containers. No Ice Cream or Margarine, or Whipped Cream containers. No Styrofoam.

Paper: No WET, paper or Wet of any thing on the left. (If they get wet, you can just stack them up, until they Dry)No ‘hardcover books, unless, the inside pages ONLY are recycled, Not, the Covers.

Glass: No Window, Mirror, ceramic, light bulbs, drinking glass, or dishes.

Cans: No cans with food in them.

Do NOT Put these items in Garbage - OR - Recycling ‘pick-up’.
Automotive Batteries, (You know that, when you need a new one, take the old one in, and replace it with the new one. It will actually cost you more to buy a new automotive battery, with out the old one) Other batteries, The small ones, AAA, AA, C, B size, hearing aid, Cell/portable Phone, rechargeable ones, (like drills etc.) other batteries. (Many stores have a box which you can put them into, for free, or take them to your County or Township, recycling center.
Ink cartridges, or Toner cartridges, for printers and Copiers.
Florescent Light Bulbs. And now, those new screw in ones, that are kinna curly tubes, that fit into a regular socket. They are STILL Florescent bulbs, and contain a ‘ballast’ and in the glass tube, mercury and lead. They also, need to go to the ‘counties’ hazardous waste program. They can NOT, go into the ground at a landfill.
Any Electronic thing, Any CRT, (Catho Ray Tube) Like a TV set, or Computer Monitor. (A standard size, CTR, Contains over 4 pounds of Lead, Cadiem, Mercury, and a host of other stuff I can’t even spell) There are places which DO recycle and recover those materials for reuse. Those, again, go to the Counties Hazardous waste pick up day. And yes, you will have to pay to get rid of them.
Overstuffed Chairs, Couches, mattresses, etc. Tires, Compost, Allpliances.

What do I do, with the things which can not go into Garbage or Recycling?

First, if you are in doubt, if something can be: “Thrown Away’ or ‘Recycled’ or is, ‘hazardous waste’,  ASK.
Ask your County, Ask us. Find out!

Most things, either hazardous waste, or non garbage, or recyclable items, can be, ‘gotten rid of’, through your counties. In Renville County, the Landfill will take all items. Yes there is a charge on many of the above items which are not garbage, or recyclable, but that is just the cost of that item. Also doing this through the County, many times that cost is less, because it is subsided through the County.
